  33. I can't claim to speak for Chuck.  Anybody who wants to know anything about
  34. Zmodem should go to the definitive source.  My personal opinion is that
  35. Chuck made a significant contribution to the online culture of the 1980s and
  36. 90s and beyond: he invented a protocol, and wrote software, that is used by
  37. millions.  Now he has a company whose aim, at least in part, is continued
  38. development and support of that protocol and software.  Some people think
  39. this a bad thing, because they don't want to pay for what they used to get
  40. for free.  I don't think it's so bad -- what would you rather have him do,
  41. work at a bank?  One of the basic principles that makes the world go 'round
  42. is that people are paid to work.

  44. I asked Chuck about using Zmodem with Kermit.  He said (and I paraphrase):

  55. In other words, Omen *does* have a Zmodem product that can be called from
  56. Kermit, so I think the right thing for those who want to have Zmodem
  57. transfers on Kermit connections would be to license up-to-date supported
  58. Zmodem software from its original maker.
